The best part of my day job is the travel I get to enjoy and the people I meet.

This week - Auckland ✈️ Christchurch ✈️Auckland 🚙 Waikato 🚙 Auckland and finally 🏡

Task: photography shoot for front of pack NPD images, social pics, video and lifestyle shots and some BTS footage.

Although the days are long and tiring, it is never far from my mind how privileged I am to live this life.

Life is meant to be lived. 🌸

Why are we all wearing shoe covers? No we're not going into a super clean factory or medical unit.

Raising our children, we believe in nurturing openess to new cultures, religions, traditions etc. This shows them that there is no one way of seeing the world, but many different ways, through different lenses. Not right or wrong, but simply different.

So when we heard that the beautiful temple that we've watched being built in Auckland over the past few years was open for viewing, hubby and I jumped at the chance to show the kids a new perspective.

To say it was beautiful was an understatement. The workmanship was immaculate and the contemplation areas were magical.

Our eyes and hearts were opened with this beautiful experience. 🙏

I loved taking my son and his friend to watch the spectacle across the water.

Some days will be fun and other days you need to bring the fun. 🌶️

When my 13yo asked to be a chilli pepper for sports day, my first thoughts were ‘what a pain! I’ll have to rush to the costume shop after work and he’ll only wear the costume once, it’ll be a waste of money.’

But then I stopped those thoughts and chose joy instead. I got the costume.

He loved the sports day and when he got home I dressed up too just for a laugh. 🍌

We had a good giggle and he’s planning to be a chili for Halloween too (I won’t be doing the same 😜).

Is this task critical to do right now?

You cannot grow a business if you react to everything that comes your way, like:

🔹problems
🔹new information
🔹new product development
🔹customer service.

These all need to be attended to, yes, but not at the expense of your growth. Carve out time that is untouchable, for you to focus on that one area that will move the dial and protect that time fiercely!

You can be very busy doing what has to be done but not what is going to grow your business.

Marketing can sometimes be overwhelming and while it is very important in your business, it is one element that you should focus on for a period of time, put the strategy in place, implement and move on. It should not take over your day!

Running your business and making a profit is the most important thing. Focus on areas that matter.

A great, well thought out marketing and business plan takes time in the beginning but will free up time in your day to day. #smallbusiness #marketing #focus on

I remember the day so clearly. My manager, the CEO of a global pharmaceutical company told me that my next position would be his, CEO. ‘Let’s work on your 5 year plan to get you there.’ I could hardly believe it, I was 37. Everything I had worked for was finally happening for me!

WAIT A MINUTE!!

No, no, no! I love marketing, I don’t want to be a CEO!! What happened?

I was so busy climbing the corporate ladder that I had no idea what my ultimate goal was, and it certainly wasn’t CEO!

As Ross in Friends would say: PIVOT!!

I resigned and started a marketing consultancy and have not lost focus of my first love since then.

Don’t climb ladders that are against the wrong walls. Mindless action is not healthy action if you’re living someone else’s dream.

These images may look like we’re having a lot of fun and we have had some, but keeping it real, I spent the first 3 hours of Christmas morning on my hands and knees trying to clean my son’s vomit off a carpet. We went out at 7am after scrubbing, to make a happy memory so that we didn’t make this Christmas the ‘vomity one.’
